Settings / add-ins to improve Search's behavior?
I've been using NEdit as my editor of choice for nearly a decade, and I've gotten a bit used to it. But its really unpleasant running it through OS X's X11 layer, so I've been using BBEdit instead. And on the whole, I'm happy with BBEdit.
One thing I miss terribly is NEdit's 'incremental search bar', which is a text entry box that nestles in with text windows right above the text itself. Its always there, never gets lost among other windows, and takes a miniscule amount of screen space. Its pretty similar to how Finding works in Firefox, Safari, Camino, Apple Mail, Finder, Address Book or even Activity Monitor. And in fact BBEdit does support this kind of search... but only in the Insert Clipping dialog box.
'Quick Search' in BBEdit is vaguely similar to what I'm looking for, but personally I find it mostly useless, because it won't stay on top of the main window, and it doesn't support regular expressions.
The main BBEdit find dialog does support regular expressions, but for one thing its huge and takes lots of screen real estate, and secondly it disappears after I press enter, modal or not. Usually the first hit is not the one I want.
Is there some BBEdit setting I could tweak to improve the behavior? Or some add-in?
